About Me and The Daring Space

I’m Jane, the counsellor behind The Daring Space.

I offer online counselling for adults aged 18 and over across the UK. My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches to meet your individual needs rather than following one single model.

My work is grounded in warmth, respect and genuine care, offering a calm space where you can talk openly, feel heard, and begin to make sense of what feels heavy, confusing or difficult right now.

My journey into counselling

My own experience of counselling played an important part in my decision to become a counsellor.

Following a significant personal loss, I experienced first hand the value of having a safe, supportive space where I could speak openly and without judgment. Counselling didn’t change what had happened, but it helped me to find a way to live alongside it.

That experience shaped the way I understand counselling today. It reminded me that being truly heard can make a meaningful difference, even when life cannot be changed. Those values continue to guide my work and are at the heart of everything I hope to offer through The Daring Space.

Why The Daring Space?

The Daring Space was created from a simple belief: that meaningful change often begins when we’re given the space to pause, feel heard and reflect without judgment.

The name reflects the quiet courage it can take to begin counselling. Reaching out for support, speaking honestly about difficult experiences and allowing yourself to be vulnerable can all feel like daring steps. My hope is that The Daring Space offers somewhere you feel safe enough to take those steps.

The name also holds personal significance for me and draws quiet inspiration from HMS Daring. While that meaning remains deeply personal, it reflects qualities that are central to my practice: courage, steadiness, compassion and hope.

How I work

No two people are the same, and I don’t believe counselling should be either.

My approach is integrative, with its roots in person-centred counselling. This means I tailor the way we work to you, your experiences and what you hope to gain from counselling, rather than following a single approach, or expecting you to fit into one way of working.

At the heart of my practice is the belief that feeling heard, understood and accepted creates the foundation for change. Sometimes that means simply having a space to talk and reflect. At other times, we might explore patterns, relationships or practical ways of moving forward. Together, we’ll work in a way that feels right for you.

Above all, I aim to provide a calm, collaborative and compassionate space where you can be yourself, without judgment and without pressure.

Qualifications and Experience

I am a qualified counsellor, with a Level 5 qualification in Counselling and Applied Psychology, supported by earlier counselling training at Levels 2, 3 and 4. My training has been supported by supervised clinical practice and continues through ongoing professional development and regular clinical supervision.

Alongside my private practice, I have supported adults experiencing a wide range of concerns through my work with Family Welfare, including anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions and postnatal mental health.

I am an individual member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their Ethical Framework, ensuring my practice is safe, ethical and client centred.

My continuing professional development reflects my commitment to providing safe, informed and ethical counselling. Recent areas of learning include:

  • Online and telephone counselling

  • Safeguarding and suicide awareness

  • Trauma-informed practice, PTSD and shame.

  • Grief and bereavement and complex grief

  • Supporting serving personnel, veterans and military families

  • Women veterans

The Armed Forces Community

Supporting the Armed Forces community is a particular area of professional interest for me, shaped by lived understanding of military family life alongside continued professional development. You do not however need to have a connection to the Armed Forces to work with me. The Daring Space welcomes adults from all backgrounds.
